May 30, 2012 - The new COBIT 5 framework and its supporting guides have already been downloaded a total of more than 68,000 times since they were released by ISACA on 10 April. To offer clarity on the new version and how it builds on COBIT 4.1, ISACA is offering a one-day course led by COBIT experts.

Introduction to COBIT 5 will be held 23 June 2012 at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco, California, USA, just prior to ISACA's World Congress: INSIGHTS 2012, taking place 25–27 June 2012 at the same location.

ISACA—a nonprofit global association of more than 95,000 IT governance, security and assurance professionals—first developed COBIT more than 16 years ago. The latest evolution, COBIT 5, offers a business framework for the governance and management of enterprise IT (GEIT) that helps enterprises create optimal value from IT by maintaining a balance between realizing benefits and optimizing risk levels and resources. COBIT 5 promotes seamless continuity between an enterprise's IT department and its overall information and technology assets. It can be tailored for an enterprise's specific business model, technology environment, industry, location and corporate culture. The result of a four-year initiative led by a global task force, COBIT 5 was reviewed by more than 95 experts worldwide prior to its release.

"The release of COBIT 5 was highly anticipated and, now that it is here, people are interested in learning how to use it to its full potential and benefit their enterprises," said Vernon Poole, CISM, CGEIT, CRISC, member of ISACA's COBIT 5 Task Force. "This course will guide professionals who are thinking about adopting COBIT for the first time, integrating it with other global standards and frameworks, or transitioning from an earlier version of COBIT."

Included in the Introduction to COBIT 5 course is a section on the new COBIT Assessment Programme using both COBIT 4.1 and COBIT 5. Attendees will learn:

  • How IT management issues affect enterprises
  • The principles of GEIT and the relationship between governance and management
  • How to implement COBIT 5 and the benefits of using it to address enterprise challenges
  • The differences between COBIT 4.1 and COBIT 5 and what to consider when transitioning
  • How the COBIT 5 processes help guide the creation of the five basic principles and the seven governance and management enablers
  • How to use the Goals Cascade and the Process Reference Model from the COBIT 5 Enabling Processes guide

For information and to register, visit http://www.isaca.org/Education/COBIT-Education/Pages/default.aspx. The fee for the Introduction to COBIT 5 course is US $550 for members and US $750 for nonmembers. Attendees can earn seven continuing professional education credits.

COBIT 5 is available to all as a free-of-charge download at www.isaca.org/cobit. ISACA also released COBIT 5: Enabling Processes (free to ISACA members and US $135 for nonmembers) and COBIT 5 Implementation (free to ISACA members and US $150 for nonmembers), which help framework users apply the guidance. Print editions of all three guides are available for purchase from the ISACA Bookstore (www.isaca.org/bookstore). COBIT 5 for Information Security will be released on 25 June at the conference.
