November 21, 2014 - The day after it was fined £56 million over an IT meltdown, Royal Bank of Scotland has suffered a minor glitch which has seen some customers unable to use their credit and debit cards.

Some RBS, NatWest and Ulster Bank customers had issues using their Visa cards in-store and at ATMs this morning but the group says that the problem was resolved by 9:15am and that there was "minimal customer impact".

Yesterday the Financial Conduct Authority slapped the bank with a huge fine over its 2012 IT meltdown, which locked millions of customers out of accounts and knocked out payments processing systems.

Responding to the fine, Andrew Tyrie MP, chairman of the treasury committee, warned: "RBS and other banks have told us that they are now 'investing heavily' in systems on which their customers will be able to rely. Events will tell us whether they have done enough."

Meanwhile, according to Sky News, RBS has clawed back some of the costs associated with the 2012 IT failure by reaching a confidential settlement worth millions of pounds with IT supplier CA Technologies.
