April 28, 2014 - Deutsche Börse Group is expanding its offering of supervisory board training with the "supervisory board audit committee specialist member/financial expert" exam, thus continuing its efforts to create more transparency on the capital markets.
Under the Stock Corporation Act (Aktiengesetz – AktG), the supervisory board of a stock corporation targeted at the capital markets must have at least one independent member who explicitly has specialist knowledge about the field of accounting or auditing; such member is referred to as the financial expert.".
These supervisory board members can document this qualification by taking the "supervisory board audit committee specialist member/financial expert" exam.
Both exams are identical – only the professional requirement determines the title of the qualification. The admission requirement for either exam is several years of professional experience on an executive or supervisory board or as a lawyer. In addition, prospective "financial experts" need to be able to prove particular knowledge in the field of accounting – for instance through experience as a CFO.
"We want to contribute to establishing transparency and higher standards in the capital markets by expanding our range of exams. This is because we are convinced that supervisory board members' skills are an important component of responsible corporate management and governance," said Dr Alexandra Hachmeister, Head of Regulatory Strategy and Chair of the '"Qualified Supervisory Board"' Exam Board of the Capital Markets Academy, Deutsche Börse's training centre.
The first "supervisory board audit committee specialist member/financial expert" exam will take place on 2 June. The subject areas relevant to the exam are: the financial expert on the audit committee, internal control and risk management systems, audit tasks, accounting and auditing financial statements.
