October 2, 2015 - On the day that UK police arrested a third person in their investigation into a massive data breach at TalkTalk, another UK telco, Vodafone, admits that 1800 accounts have been plundered by unknown intruders.

Vodafone says the breach, which occurred on Wednesday and Thursday of last week, was "driven by criminals using email addresses and passwords acquired from an unknown source external to Vodafone."

The company adds: "Vodafone's systems were not compromised or breached in any way."

The attackers are believed to have escaped with the names of 1,827 customers, mobile phone numbers, bank sort codes and the last four digits of subscriber bank accounts.

The company says it has informed the National Crime Agency (NCA), the ICO, and Ofcom of the issue and notified the banks of victimised accounts.

The event came to light as detectives arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of Computer Misuse Act offences in the ongoing investigation into the hacking of TalkTalk, which put millions of customers' banking details at risk. This follows the arrest of two teenage suspects earlier last week.
