Compliance laws and new technologies can have a great impact on the business infrastructure and business process that we support as security and compliance professionals. New compliance laws that come out almost each month, are just another area on the long list of issues that companies may have to fix and are overwhelmed by. In some cases, these new compliance requirements, can change more that just our technology platforms but the way we do business. New developments in Technology, like social media, have created a new kind of internet with a host of compliance risks as well. As security and compliance professionals, we need to take the lead within our organizations to constantly monitor these new compliance changes (PCI changes, Privacy Laws, etc.) and new technologies (i.e. Cloud Computing, Social Media, etc.) and evaluate the impact that these changes will have on our company. Just like the latest security and vulnerability patches should be evaluated, so must new compliance requirements and technologies. We have various tools at our disposal to manage risk assessments, compliance status, and data leakage, but sometimes it feels like we are just drinking out of a fire hose. In this short presentation we will talk about an approach to weed through the overwhelming data that is thrown at us, and try to cut to the real business risks that your organization faces.
