Cybersecurity is of paramount concern for senior management and security professionals alike. The growing scope, complexity, frequency and cost of cyberattacks are forcing companies to focus significant time and attention to address these risks.
IT emphasis has historically been on perimeter defenses such as bigger and better firewalls, antivirus and other malware detection technology and Data Loss Prevention (DLP) tools. However, the emphasis on firewalls and detection leaves a large vulnerability once those systems are inevitably bypassed. Once breached, the information assets are more accessible. One of the softest targets for a hacker are end-user controlled (EUC) files that are unstructured and may contain sensitive information such as PII or PCI. These breaches are extremely costly and new regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation in Europe amplify those costs.
