Digital business investment continues to accelerate. IDC reported that worldwide digital transformation investment reached $1.8 trillion in 2022, and McKinsey projected that the global value of loT products and services will reach $12.6 trillion by 2030.
At the same time, the quality of digital business investment is highly suspect, and cyber attackers continue to find and exploit vulnerabilities in poor-quality software. Dark Reading found that 88% of codebases use open-source components that haven’t been updated in the past two years, and Gartner (as reported by The Wall Street Journal) estimates that less than 50% of companies’ APIs will be managed properly by 2025 because their growth will eclipse the ability of their management tools. The financial impact is enormous: The Consortium for Information & Software Quality (CISQ) has estimated that the cost of poor-quality software in the U.S. has grown to at least $2.4 trillion.
