In 2023, Kaspersky's findings revealed a notable surge in global mobile banking trojan assaults on Android users, marking a 33% increase from previous years. Additionally, cryptocurrency-related phishing activities experienced a significant uptick.

The report identified Bian.h as the most prevalent banking trojan, constituting 22% of all Android attacks. Geographically, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan reported the highest instances of encounters with banking trojans, while Turkey emerged as the epicenter of mobile banking malware attacks.

Igor Golovin, a security expert at Kaspersky, emphasized the evolving tactics of attackers, particularly targeting mobile devices with newfound aggression. He stressed the critical need for both individuals and businesses to maintain heightened vigilance, update protective measures, and enhance device security accordingly.

In contrast, the report indicated an 11% decline in the number of users impacted by financial PC malware in 2023. The Ramnit and Zbot families were identified as the primary culprits, targeting over half of the affected users, primarily focusing on consumers.

Kaspersky's preventive measures thwarted nearly six million attempts to access cryptocurrency-themed phishing links, marking a 16% surge from the previous year. Scammers replicated cryptocurrency exchanges and posed as renowned entities such as Apple to deceive users.

Overall, financial phishing emerged as a significant threat, constituting 27% of all phishing attacks on corporate users and 31% on home users. Notably, PayPal phishing comprised over half of the phishing pages targeting users of electronic payment systems.
