April 2, 2015 - Nationwide Building Society has deployed Apptio's Technology Business Management (TBM) software in order to 'sweat' its IT and measure the cost, quality, and value of its enterprise-wide technology services.

The technology team at the Nationwide deployed the cloud-based measurement monitoring software last year to optimise the provision of IT services internally and externally to consumers.

The roll out is predicted to help save between £6 million and £8 million in the first year thanks to cost cutting in areas such as software licensing ATM performance and outsourced vendor contracts.

This has been achieved thanks to a cost transparency programme that provides a fully loaded end-to-end cost for each line of business system so that Nationwide can identify where IT systems have not been running at full capacity.

"We needed a new way of looking at demand and a new way to bring all that data together," explains Debra Bailey, CIO and divisional director of IT & Group Security at Nationwide.

"We realised the project was going to be significant, but looking back it's really changed the nature of the way in which we work as a division, and the conversations we have with the business."
